History

Dutch Cups has been founded in 1995 by two young entrepreneurs from Lelystad, the Netherlands. Since 2005 we are a Dutch limited liability company part of the Dutch Cups Holding. We are a relatively small family company with 3 shareholders, 5 full time workers and a larger group of part timers and freelancers.

The first time the Dutch Cups presented itself to the market was at the horeca trade fair called Festivak in Maastricht early 1996. On May 5th 1996 Dutch Cups glasses were for the first time used in the Netherlands at a major event, Bevrijdingsfestival Overijssel in Zwolle. On May the 12th 1996 also the first event in Belgium, the so-called Milieufestival Antwerpen, was supplied by Dutch Cups.  These first trendsetters were soon followed in 1996 and following years by events like the Valkhof affaire, Waldrock, Virus Festival, Haarlemmerhout Festival, Festival aan de Werf, Theaterfestival De Parade and the huge Uitmarkt in Amsterdam. In 1998 Dutch Cups entered a new market of concert halls. The most famous rock temple Paradiso in Amsterdam decided after two successful try-outs to completely switch to reusable plastic glasses. Glassware was already out of the question as various artists refused to perform if real glass would be used and the usage of disposable plastic cups gave a floor full of waste and high cleaning costs.

Afterwards, many clubs, concert halls and other entertainment centres followed the example of Paradiso. New customers also came from conference centres, recreation and sports clubs, beach bars,  scouting organizations, etc. Since the early years of 2000 a new development was shown, since city communes started to decide only reusable eco glasses with a refund system are allowed at outside events. In big cities like Utrecht and Amsterdam this turned out to be a big success. Belgium governmental institutions followed quickly like the Provinces of Antwerp and Vlaams Brabant. In many Belgium communes nowadays the usage of reusable plastic glasses  is very common at events and parties.

That Dutch Cups in all those years has been developing itself has been shown by the growing range of products and services. In 2005 Dutch Cups moved back from Almere to its roots town Lelystad. The office and warehouse in Almere appeared no longer to be consistent with the growth of the company. Dutch Cups established a spacious office and showroom, large warehouse and professional washing centre. Also the production of moulds and the injection moulding of products like the glasses are taking place at this premises. All under one roof!
If you would like to visit us, we are more than happy to give you a tour around. At the same time, we will share with you our vision for the future and look for ways how we can be of benefit to your organisation. We look forward meeting you!
